DOT AND THE KANGAROO

Director's Notes

Directing Dot and the Kangaroo Jr has been a long-held dream of mine, sparked the moment I learned of its development. While I have thoroughly enjoyed my experiences directing productions like Legally Blonde Jr and Elf Jr, there is something uniquely special about the Australian bush — it feels like home to me in a way that no other place can express.

Dot and the Kangaroo is not just a story; it’s a quintessential part of our Australian heritage. Its themes resonate strongly today, carrying an important environmental message that is just as vital now as it was 125 years ago when it was first published. This timeless tale reminds us of the beauty and fragility of our natural environment, inviting audiences to reconnect with the land that nurtures us.

The stunning Australian landscape provides a breathtaking backdrop for this enchanting story, and I couldn’t think of a more fitting venue than the newly refurbished Roleystone Theatre. Its intimate setting enhances the connection between the performers and the audience, allowing us all to dive into Dot’s journey with joy and wonder.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Bree Hartley and the Roleystone Theatre committee for their invaluable partnership with Western Theatrics. Their support and dedication have been instrumental in bringing this beautiful children’s musical to life, and I am excited for our audiences to share in this delightful experience.

As we embark on this adventure together, I hope that Dot and the Kangaroo Jr inspires laughter, reflection, and appreciation for our incredible Australian environment. Thank you for being a part of this journey.

Warm wishes,

Nicole George
